The evolution and design of this yo-yo has overcome many challenges.
The project began with the name: "Pistolero". The challenge was to create a yo-yo which could live up to this name, with the right balance between a picture perfect design and exceptional performance.
The rotary engravings on the perimeter have been present since the first prototype, but not only for decoration, but also to help conceal small scratches which occur on the edges when playing. This resulted in crafting a yo-yo with a smooth transition between the flat rims and specially designed gap profile, resulting in a very unique shape which fits very nicely into your hand.
The gap, has increased compared to earlier designs, and response system consists of a deep recess for friction stickers, but with a groove deep enough to accept flowable silicone if you prefer to customize the response. The final weight is slightly heavier than the beta versions due to the lack of holes near the matador spikes which were originally planned, but due to machining complications was abandoned.
The spikes in the center of each face are an easily recognizable characteristic of most SPYY yo-yos. Also the finish is beautifully anodized in three amazing colours, with the Pistolero and SPYY logo laser engraved in the center of each face.
Comes complete with a precision stainless steel bearing size or type D, measuring 5x11x5 mm, which is slightly lubricated with SPYY's thin lubrication.
The Pistolero's most significant and eye catching feature is the rotary engraving. The scroll work was captured from an 1873 Colt Peacemaker six shooter, imported into CAD and converted into arcs, curves and splines for CNC machining. The engraving relieves the anodized surface to expose shiny, raw aluminum for a classic hand-tooled look. This process took many, many hours to perfect and the end result is nothing less than stunning!
